FATAL STROKE

Farmer Near Carencro Succumbs to Excessive Heat--Five Prostrations in Second Ward.

During the oppressive heat period that prevailed all over the country last week, Lafayette was peculiarly fortunate, having but one fatality and about a half a dozen prostrations.

Robert Addison, a farmer living near Carencro, while gathering pea vines about 3 o'clock in the afternoon last Thursday, was overcome by heat and died very shortly after the stroke. Mr Addison was about 35 years of age and leaves a wife and several children. On the same day five men while at work in Mr. Baptiste Langeaux' rice field in the Second Ward, were prostrated by the heat, but soon recovered when properly cared for.
