Laura was the oldest of ten children born to Harmon and Lucy Ann (Brown) Boatright. She married George Abney in 1882 and they had eight children: Pearl, Grover, Archie, Emma, Netta, George, Zena and Arthur.

Mrs. Laura Boatright Abney, wife of George A. Abney, died Wed. at the family home in Brushy. She was born November 7, 1863 and was fifty two years, seven months and seven days old. The funeral services will be held at the home Friday, June 16 at 10 o'clock with Rev. Hamilton officiating. Interment will be at Abney Cemetery

Obit: Laura Jane Abney, wife of George A. Abney, was born Nov. 7, 1863 departed this life June 15, 1916 52 years 7 months and 7 days. She was the oldest child of Harmon and Lucy Boatright, who reared to manhood and womanhood nine children. Mother Abney being the first of the family to be taken. On Oct. 10, 1882 she was united in marriage to George A. Abney, to which union eight children were born, viz: Pearly, wife of H. J. Cox of Hillsboro, IL; Glover; Archie; Emma, wife of Frank Odum; Netta, wife of Jesse Moore(all of Harrisburg); and George, Zena and Arthur at home.
