Raymond was the son of Raymond H.and Marguerite L. (Nolan) Bachtel. He married Rose Anna Douthitt in 1951 and they were the parents of five children: Joe, Tom, Betsy, Steve and Susie.

BACHTEL Raymond E. Bachtel went peacefully home to be with the Lord and his beloved wife Rose Anne (Ronnie) on January 12, 2011, just 2 days short of his 89th birthday. Ray graduated from South High School in Columbus, then served as an Army Sergeant in WW II in Africa and Italy. Upon returning home from the war, he attended The Ohio State University in Business Administration. He worked for Nationwide Insurance Company where he retired after 34 years. Ray loved his church where he was an active member of Ascension Lutheran for over 50 years. He is survived by his children, Joe (Christine) of Pleasant Mount, PA, Tom (Mary) of Columbus, Betsy of Columbus, Steve (Barb) of Chandler, AZ, Susie (Tom) of Columbus; and grandchildren, Stephanie, Amy, Kris and Ray. Friends may visit 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday at WEIR-AREND FUNERAL HOME, 4221 N. High St. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. with calling 1 hour prior on Tuesday, January 18 at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1479 Morse Rd., Columbus, OH. Pastor Tim Muller officiating. The family ask that, in lieu of flowers, donations be given to the deaf girls program in honor of Ray.
