My Grandmother.
She was the daughter of Robert Gilford Smith and Martha Ann Seagraves Smith, and the wife of Young Davis, marrying him on Dec. 25, 1892 in Athens, Clarke County, Ga.
There was six children from this union; Nelle, Newton, Irene, Marie, Nora Bell and Harry, In addition to raising her own children she helped raise two grandchildren and a nephew.
She was a homemaker and loved to piece quilts, also work in her vegetable and flower gardens. She had quite the green thumb and most of what she grew was from cuttings or seeds that she and her friends would trade. When ever she had a spare moment she could be found in her rocking chair reading her bible. She was a great lady, loved and respected by all that knew her. She had a saying "If you can't say something good about someone just don't say anything."
I am one of the grandchildren she helped raise and I thank God everyday that he saw fit to give me such a kind and loving Grandmother. I would hear saying her prayers at night and she always ended by saying "Lord, whenever you are ready for me to come home, I'm ready" She died of a massive heart attack at age 80 two weeks before Christmas, and I am so grateful he saw fit to take her without her suffering.
