He was a 1988 inductee into the Monroe County Hall of Fame on which his plaque reads "Honors (Pre-1946) Was the first black to earn a law degree from Indiana University. Doing so in 1909. He was curator of the IU Law Library for 39 years and assisted many law school students during that time"
