Sir Charles Bent Ball, 1st Bt. was born on 21 February 1851. He was the son of Robert Ball and Amelia Gresley Hellicar. He married Annie Julia Kinahan, daughter of Daniel Kinahan, on 23 July 1874. He died on 17 March 1916, at age 65.
Sir Charles Bent Ball, 1st Bt. graduated from Trinity College, University of Dublin, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.). He graduated from Trinity College, University of Dublin, with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.). He graduated from Trinity College, University of Dublin, with a Master of Surgery (M.Ch.). He was invested as a Knight on 3 February 1903. He was Regius Professor of Surgery at Trinity College, University of Dublin. He was President of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Ireland. He was invested as a Fellow, Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland (F.R.C.S.I.). He was created 1st Baronet Ball, of Merrion Square, Dublin and Killybegs, Co. Donegal [U.K., 1911] on 23 June 1911. He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1914 in the service of the Royal Army Medical Corps.

Charles Bent Ball, a bachelor, M.B., from Blaenavon, Monmouthshire, son of Robert Ball, LL.D., married Annie Julia Kinahan, a spinster, from 25 Clyde Road, Dublin, daughter of Daniel Kinahan, a Merchant, on 23 July 1874 at St. Bartholomew's Church, Clyde Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin
