Second Lieutenant Thomas Leslie Bourke.

formerly of PALS Battn, Royal Dublin Fusiliers

His birth was registered in Q3, 1896, Dublin South.
Son of Henry Leonard Bourke, an Actuary in a Savings Bank, and Martha Bourke, of 48, Grove Park, Rathmines, Dublin.

The marriage of Henry Leonard Bourke and Martha James was registered in Dublin South district, in the quarter ended September 1883.


In the 1911 Census, the parents with six of their seven surviving children lived at Strand Road, Sandymount, Dublin.
Present were,
Henry Leonard Bourke, aged 53, an Actuary in a Savings Bank, born in Co. Mayo.
Martha, his wife, aged 49, born in City of Dublin.
They had been married 27 years and had 9 children, 7 of whom were alive.
Evaline Maud, daughter, aged 26,
Leonard Wellington, son, aged 21, a searching record clerk in the Four Courts,
Edmund Cecil, son, aged 18, a Clerk,
Robert Gascoigne, son, aged 16, an Apprentice,
Thomas Leslie, son, aged 14, a Scholar,
Edward Septimus, son, aged 9, a Scholar,

all of the children had been born in Co. Dublin.



He initially joined The Royal Dublin Fusiliers, but transferred to the RAF.
He was a flying instructor, who was badly burnt in an accident, and died some days later.



His name is included in the
Mount Jerome Cemetery War Memorial

His name is also included in the names on the wall of the Mayo Peace Park, Castlebar, Co. Mayo.
