He died on active service in England.

His death was registered in Knaresborough District, Yorkshire.

Son of Herbert & Florence Anne Andrews Dowse, of Dalkey.

In the 1911 census, Herbert Dowse was a clerk in a Fire Insurance company. The family then lived at 47, Percy Place, Dublin, with his Andrews parents-in-law. They later moved to Tritonville Road, Sandymount, and later to Ardbrugh Villas, Dalkey.

His older brother Arthur Patrick Dowse , who was also an RAF pilot, died in WW2.

Their names are recorded on a War Memorial at,
Holy Trinity Church, Killiney.

FUNERAL
Mr. H.R. Dowse
The funeral of Mr. Herbert Richard Dowse, only surviving son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Dowse, of 5 Ardbrugh Villas, Dalkey, took place yesterday at Dean's Grange Cemetery. The services in the church and at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. Canon Barker, of Holy Trinity, Killiney.
The chief mourners were Mr. and Mrs. H. Dowse, Miss Stella Dowse, Mr. Eric Dowse, Mr. C. Whiteman, Mr. L. Warner, Mr. W.E. Trimble, Mrs. H. Sibery, Mrs. R. Woodworth and Mrs. C. Courtney.


There are indications that his death was a civilian accident.
