Corporal Elmo Larry Butler, Served with Company B, 2nd Battalion, 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division.
2/60th was air lifted to a location in Dinh Tuong Province approximately 16 Km west of the 9th Infantry Division base camp at Dong Tam. 2/60th encountered heavy enemy fire from a bunker line as they proceeded off the LZ.
Friendly casualties were incurred and elements of the battalion were pinned down by heavy fire. PSG William Stafford and 1 Lt. Joseph Mancuso were instrumental in calling in Helicopter gunships and Artillery fire. CPL Elmo Larry Butler gave the supreme sacrifice that day.
