For many years he was a cooper at various tobacco factories in Louisville including the Liggett & Myers Tobacco Co. and the American Tobacco Co. He was married three times. On 20 Mar 1909 he married Lena Tate by whom he had two daughters, Katherine Mae, and an unnamed infant who was stillborn. Lena died 02 Feb 1911 shortly after the stillbirth of the baby girl. According to my grandmother, Marion Willman Eschman Cox, William always said that Lena was the love of his life.
