Henry was the son of Wilhelm Eschmann and Frederica Greve. Along with his parents and siblings he immigrated to the US about 1849 and settled in Ohio before moving with the family to Louisville, KY. On 24 Sep 1872 he married Josephine Ruff in St. Louis, MO. The couple had seven children: Emil, Josephine, Wanda, Victor, Lottie, George, and Frederick. For many years the family lived in Louisville where Henry worked as a cabinet and furniture maker. Some time after 1890 the family moved to St. Louis where Henry died in 1893 of disease of the liver and stomach.
