John was the son of Peter Arts. In 1853, following the death of his parents, he and his siblings Joseph (who died at sea) and Margaret (#110675028) immigrated to the United States. Their brother Albert (#54643507) had previously immigrated. He settled in Paducah, Kentucky, and the following year, on 27 Jun 1864, he married Margaret Yopp. They had eleven children: Elizabeth, Ann, Rosa, Jacob, Albert Andrew, Barbara, Joseph, Margaret, Albert Nicholas, George and Henry. John was a carpenter. He died at the age of 67.
