Elizabeth was the fifth of six children born to Johann Friederich Von Bokern and his second wife Maria Katharina Wessendorf. The family lived in Ankum, German. According to family history, her father was a count who refused to fight a duel and so gave up his title. In 1872 she immigrated to the United States on board the passenger ship Weser which sailed from Bremen. Along with her four living sisters, she settled in Louisville where she lived the rest of her life. On 08 Jan 1880 she married John Peter Buchheit and they had 8 children: Mary, John, Peter, Edward, Elizabeth, John, an unnamed infant girl, and Elizabeth C. For many years Elizabeth was a parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Churhc. She died of chronic nephritis.
