He was trained and managed by Cus D'Amato as a teenage amateur boxer. Floyd Patterson became the youngest World Heavyweight Champion when he knocked out Archie Moore in the fifth round on November 30, 1956. He lost the title to Ingemar Johansson on June 26, 1959, but he became the first fighter in boxing history to successfully regain the heavyweight title when he knocked out Johansson in a rematch on June 20, 1960. He was knocked out by Sonny Liston in Round One on September 25, 1962. He also lost to Muhammad Ali during an attempted comeback in 1965. He retired from boxing in 1972. In later years he managed his adopted son Tracy Harris Patterson's boxing career. He became chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission. His career record in 64 fights is 55 Wins, 8 Loses, and 1 Draw. He died at age 71 in 2006.
