Widely known in his community, Ricker was regarded by his many friends and associates as "a good solid citizen" In addition to his willingness to espouse and aid community causes and activities he was a man who easily made friends. The latter ability was the inevitable result of his amiable and congenial disposition that endeared him to all with whom he came into contact.
Prior to his retirement a year ago, Ricker was a salesman for the Walter Johnson shoe welting material firm of Endicott, N.Y. Prior to entering the employ of the Johnson firm many years ago, he was employed for 33 years by the G. R. Kinney Company at Palmyra
A pioneer auto enthusiast, Ricker was a charter member of the Palmyra Lebanon County Auto Club which was organized in 1912. He also served as first vice president for many years.
A devoted member of the Palm United Lutheran Church, Ricker was active in church work throughout his life. He served as a member of the church council for approximately 40 years. He was also a member of the Men's Bible Class and Men's Brotherhood of the church.
Fraternally he was a member of Brownstone Lodge No. 666, F. and A.M.; Harrisburg Consistory and Zembo Temple.
The last member of his family, he is survived by a daughter, Sarah A. Ricker, at home. His wife, the former Sadie Early, died in 1944. His parents were the late John and Malinda (Maulfair) Ricker. [Lebanon Daily News, 3 Sep 1957]
A daughter will inherit the entire estate of Melchior Ricker, prominent Palmyra resident who died Sept. 3rd, according to terms of his will placed on file at the county courthouse. It was one of five estate settlement actions begun here during the last week. Ricker, a long time shoe industry employee and Palmyra Lebanon County Auto Club officer, left his estate to a daughter, Miss Sarah A. Ricker, of Palmyra, under terms of his will.
