PONTIAC — Ryan E. Bertsche, 30, rural Flanagan, was pronounced dead Monday (July 30, 2012) at 9:14 a.m. at Humiston Woods in rural Pontiac.

His funeral was at the Grace Episcopal Church, Pontiac. Memorials in Ryan’s name may be left to his family for his son’s education or Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Ryan was born April 25, 1982, in Bloomington, a son of Larry E. and Judy L. Thompson Bertsche. He married Kathryn L. “Katie” Johnson on Sept. 25, 2010, in Pontiac.

He is survived by his wife, Katie Bertsche, and his son, Jack Bertsche, both of rural Flanagan; his parents, Larry and Judy Bertsche, Pontiac; his sister, Sarah Bertsche, Bloomington; his paternal grandmother, June Bertsche, Flanagan; and his maternal grandparents, Bernice and Don Bratcher, Bloomington.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Paul Bertsche, and his maternal grandfather, Robert B. Thompson.

Ryan graduated from Pontiac Township High School in 2000 and Heartland Community College in 2002. He worked at Heritage Crystal Clean in Bloomington.

He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Pontiac. He loved music, going hiking and sports, especially football.

Ryan loved spending time with his wife and his son and had just enjoyed a weekend together at Wisconsin Dells.

On July 29, 2012, Ryan took his little dog, Paulie, for a walk in a local nature area. When his wife Katie came home from work he was not there and did not return as expected, his wife reported him missing. Searchers looked all night long. His body was found by runners on Monday July 30, 2012, on a trail in Humiston Woods. His little dog was still with him. Ryan was a devoted husband to Katie and father to his son Jack. A loss for all who knew him.
