Jacob Flickinger was born in Coventry Township. He married Sarah Editha Weyrick from Manchester, Coventry Township on October 4, 1874 in Manchester. The couple moved to Loyal Oak in 1878, where they lived together for 46 more years. Jacob worked as a blacksmith at Loyal Oak next to their family home. Jacob and Sarah had fourteen children, Clarence, George, John, Charles, Ella, Artie, Norman, Ada, Cora, Lula, Frederick, Lloyd, Ethel, and Edith. On October 4, 1924, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in the presence of all their living children (13), 45 grandchildren, and one great grandchild. One week later, October 11, 1924, Jacob was struck by a car on the street near their home and died two days later. (According to account by his granddaughter, Louise Kittell, in a letter to my father, dated 1981) However, his Ohio death certificate records his date of death as October 14, 1924.
