She married the late Leon S. Peters, a Fresno business leader and co-founder of Valley Foundry, who died in 1983. The Peters' were local philanthropists who provided generous support to educational and cultural institutions for decades.
Neither she nor her husband Leon were able to attend college, but through their generous support of scholarships at both CSUF and San Joaquin College of Law, they ensured that many others would get that opportunity.
Well-known for their generous support of local charities through the Leon S. Peters Foundation, the Peters family gave millions to a number of philanthropic causes, including California State University, Fresno, Community Regional Medical Center, San Joaquin College of Law, and the now-defunct Fresno Metropolitan Museum. Mrs. Peters helped start the museum.
At CSUF, the Peters name adorns several buildings. In 1988,
the auditorium of the Leon S. Peters Business Building at the Craig School of Business was named for Alice Peters.
On May 1, 1997, Mrs. Peters was honored for her philanthropy by Rep. George Radanovich, who read a tribute recorded in the proceedings of the House of Representatives.
In 2002, with a large donation to the Community Medical Foundation, Mrs. Peters started a scholarship fund for nursing students enrolled in the Extern Work Study Program through Community Medical Centers.
Mrs. Peters died at the age of 97.
