For a very special little boy who passed away from Rhabdomyosarcoma. RIP Vinny, we love and miss you!

KERNERSVILLE – Vinny DiGerolamo, 9, earned his wings on Monday, February 18, 2013 at his home in Kernersville, NC. He was born October 9, 2003 in Bullhead City, AZ to Charlie and Sarah DiGerolamo.

Vinny fought a brave battle against Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma – a rare Childhood Cancer – four times in the past 5 years. Since birth, he fought hard and bravely for his 9 short years on Earth. Born with a cleft lip, cleft palate, and Pulmonary Stenosis, he was no stranger to the medical world, even before diagnosed with cancer at age 4-years-old. His sweet, funny personality and his love of life and of those who surrounded him gave everyone HOPE and inspiration to get through the hardships in their own lives. Through his Caring Bridge Site, he touched the hearts of thousands of people. We laughed at his pranks and wept when he battled. Vinny loved Star Wars and LEGO and had the most LEGO sets that any little boy has probably had in a lifetime. He made up "Lego Therapy Nights" that were held at Brenner Children's Hospital with the LEGO Store Manager and Kids of Childhood Cancer Foundation just so other children battling cancer could enjoy building from their beds.
Vinny and family moved to Kernersville in 2006, where they remain residents.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, June and Louis DiGerolamo.

In addition to his parents surviving are his sisters, Desiree and Nychole DiGerolamo; maternal grandparents Mollie and Evan Hoorneman; several aunts and uncles, cousins, and extended family.

A Celebration of Vinny's life will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 2nd, 2013 at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church, 794 Sedge Garden Rd., Kernersville, NC, 27284 with Reverend Dave Cash officiating.

In honoring Vinny's memory, the family requests that memorials be made in his name to Kids of Childhood Cancer Foundation for "Team Vinny" for the upcoming 5K in May (PO Box 195 Kernersville, NC 27285-0195) OR "Vinny's Prayer Garden" at Sedge Garden UMC (PO Box 1892 Kernersville, NC 27285-1892).
