Mario "Mert" DeBastiani, 72, of Arthurdale, passed away on April 2, 2004, at WVU's Ruby Memorial Hospital.
Born on June 27, 1931, in Bretz, Preston County, Mario was the son of the late Antonio and Antonia DeBastiani.

Mario was a member of the St. Zita Catholic Church in Masontown, a retired UMWA surface miner and a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was also a devoted outdoorsman and an avid sports fan, who gained great joy in watching the athletic endeavors of his children and grandchildren. He was a good neighbor, always helping others.

Mario is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kathryn (Radabaugh) DeBastiani; three sons and spouses, Doug and Shelia DeBastiani, of Zebulon, N.C., Eric and Brenda DeBastiani, of Morgantown, Mark and Christine DeBastiani, of Daytona Beach, Fla.; a daughter and spouse, Lori and Greg Hunter, of Morgantown; six grandchildren, Zachary DeBastiani, Cody DeBastiani, Megan DeBastiani, Benjamin DeBastiani, Maria DeBastiani and Madison Hunter; three sisters, Clara DeBardi and husband, Nick, of Lynwood, Wash., Mary Taylor, of Masontown, Patricia Killian, of Las Vegas, Nev.; and one sister-in-law, Norma DeBastiani, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Tony.

Friends may call at the Morgan Funeral Home, Reedsville, W.Va., from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8:30 p.m. on Monday, April 5, 2004, at which time Deacon Arnie Lipscomb will have the Scripture Wake Service in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial with Father Mark Ward, C.P. will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at St. Zita Catholic Church in Masontown. Interment at Arthurdale Cemetery.
