Peter Donna survived the Cherry Mine disaster with his father John. They worked on the lowest level of the mine and were lucky to get out. They were among the last to escape the mine (until the long survivors emerged eight days later).

Peter was the longest living survivor of this disaster. He was also a professional baseball player and a grocery clerk in his life, and never returned to the mine. He called it "the biggest bunch of carelessness I have ever seen."
