Professional Football Player. For twelve seasons (1961 to 1972), he played at the defensive-tackle position in the American and National Football Leagues with the Boston/New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles. Raised in Tennessee where he attended Manassas High School, he played collegiate football at Southern Illinois University, while also earning the NAIA Wrestling Champion title. Selected by the Houston Oilers during the 8th round of the 1961 AFL Draft, Antwine appeared in 156 regular season games, earning AFL All-Star status six-times (1963 to 1968). During the course of his career, Antwine formed a highly-successful defensive-tackle pairing with Jim Hunt, as they contributed to the Patriots' first championship game appearance in 1963. He was named to both the Patriots' 50th Anniversary Team and the 1960s All-Decade Squad. He died from heart failure one day before his wife succumbed to lung cancer.
