Mustered out 16 Jun 1864. After the war, Johnson became a justice of the peace and postmaster of Pea Ridge.
The 1st Tennesse and Alabama Indpendent Vidette Cavalry served the Union Army. In many communities, volunteers made up of relatives and friends joined in a effort to "put down the rebellion."
