Doyal Allen Schroeder, 53, Horton, was killed in a one vehicle accident Friday evening, Oct. 11, 1996 near Hoyt. He was born May 29, 1943 at Hutchinson, the son of Emmett and Christine Saye Schroeder.

He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1961, Hutchinson Junior College in 1963, Kansas State University in 1965, and the University of Kansas Medical Center Mortuary Science Program in 1966. His avocation was restoration of cars and his musical talents touched many lives.

He was a member of Horton First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and a member of the building committee. He was an active member of the Horton Lions Club and past president of Tri-County Manor board. He was a former board member of the Horton Public Library and Northeast Kansas Community Action Program.

He was a mortician for over 30 years, owning and operating funeral homes in Hebron and Bruning, Neb., and Dodge City and Cimarron, Ks. He owned and operated the Schroeder Funeral Home and Monument Company Horton since 1983 and the Brown County Mortuary in Hiawatha since 1990.

Doyal was married to Joyce Brink on Nov. 21, 1973 at Horton. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Christi Tone, Palm Harbor, FL and Susan Parker, Leawood, KS; three sons, Richard Schroeder, Robinson, Tom Brink, Parker, CO and Philip Brink, Lawrence; one brother, Richard Schroeder, Stockton, MO, two sisters, Gretchen Borchers, Las Vegas, NV and Sandra Collucci, Sanibel Island, FL; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1954, and his mother June 26, 1996.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Oct. 15, 10:30 a.m., at the First Baptist Church, Horton. Burial will be in the Horton Cemetery.

Friends and family met Sunday and Monday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Schroeder Funeral Home in Horton.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or the Church Organ Fund.
