John Bull was an early day pioneer in Western Kansas. He founded the town of Ravana (originally called "Bull City", then because of protests from the women citizens, "Cowland". This still did not satisfy them, and so upon advice from a friend, it was named "Ravena" after a town in Ohio. An illiterate file clerk wrote it down as Ravana, and the name stuck.
He ran a cheese factory, and general store, and was also a real estate broker as well as a preacher.
Mr. Bull requested that he be buried on an army cot because he felt that he got his best rest while sleeping on one, and being a preacher, he wanted to return to dust, just as the Bible teaches, and so it was, that when John Bull died, they buried him on only an army cot.
