Claire Theresa Hines, 102, Scott Twp., died Friday at Mountain View Care Center. Born Oct. 5, 1911, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Regina (McGinley) Crosbie. A Scott Twp. resident since 1934, she formerly lived in Scranton. She was a graduate of St. Patrick's High School, West Scranton, and a 1930 graduate of Powell School of Business. She was a photographer for Prestwood Studios, Scranton, for many years. In her 80s, Claire took up oil painting and was honored and received several ribbons from the annual art show in Harrisburg. She was an amazing mom who always listened with her heart. A person with much faith and gratitude, she always looked for the good in others with much appreciation for life. She was a beautiful person who will never be forgotten and will always have a special place in the hearts of the many that knew and loved her. She was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Parish, Clarks Summit, for more than 61 years, and in recent years became a member of St. Ann's Basilica Parish, Scranton. She was also a member of the Lackawanna German American Society, German Austria Club, the Big Band Society and a supporter of the Humane Society of Lackawanna County. She had beautiful handwriting, played the piano, enjoyed oil painting, crocheted and knitted. She loved animals, especially dogs. The loves of her life were her daughter and son-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her dog. She had a great devotion to God, St. Ann and the Blessed Virgin Mother, and spent many hours late in the evening in prayer, praying to God for everyone that she knew that had a problem. She always put everyone's needs ahead of hers. On her 90th birthday party, she received an autograph picture of Myron Floren of the "Lawrence Welk Show." She always had a wonderful outlook on life. Her gentle spirit and the example she set of what God wanted a person to be in life will be sadly missed by those who loved and knew her. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Michael John Kozel, at the age of 34; a brother, Robert Crosbi; her wonderful stepfather, John Fuchs; and her husband, George W. Hines. The funeral will be Tuesday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's Basilica, 1250 St. Ann's St., Scranton. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Service Inc., 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit.
