Helen Mrucskowska Kaneski, age 100, a longtime Old Forge resident, died Thursday in the Taylor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she had been a resident. She was the widow of Stanley Kaneski who died in 1978. Born in Scranton on Sept. 9, 1905, daughter of the late Serafine and Frances Mrucskowska, she was employed by the Duchess Garment Company as a seamstress and later retired from the Hillcrest Lampshade Factory, both in Old Forge. Helen belonged to the South Side Senior Center, the International Ladies' Garment Workers Union, and was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Old Forge. A woman with a kind and spirited personality and bubbly disposition, Helen will be sorely missed by many. She truly enjoyed cooking, baking, and sewing. Her talents as a seamstress go unparalleled. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who adored her granddaughter and great-grandchildren. She would rarely pass on an opportunity to shop or travel with her beloved familly. She was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Mrucskowska; a sister, Frances Mihalik; three half-brothers, Charles, John, and Joseph Salak; and two half-sisters, Celia Ruda and Victoria Nasiadka.
