Rose C. Palombo, 100, of Clarks Summit and formerly of Old Forge, died Thursday morning in the VNA Hospice Unit of Community Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gus Palombo, in 1984. Born in Old Forge on October 30, 1909, daughter of the late Anthony and Mary DeRose Cherundolo, she was educated in the Old Forge School District. She also received secretarial training at Lackawanna Business College. Prior to retirement, Rose was employed as a secretary for Pagnotti Coal Co. She settled in Utica, NY upon marriage and returned to the Old Forge area in 2000. She was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Prince of Peace Parish, Old Forge. Rose was an avid bridge player and greatly enjoyed to knit. While in Utica, she was active in civic affairs and volunteered regularly at a local hospital. She was preceded in death by a stepson, Richard Palombo; a sister, Dolly Marchese; a brother, John Cherundolo; and a niece, Rosemary Marchese Coy. The funeral will be Saturday at 9:30 AM from the Victor M. Ferri Funeral Home, 522 Fallon St., Old Forge with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Prince of Peace Parish, West Grace St., Old Forge. Entombment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery.
