Katherine Dyer Dudley, 91, a resident of Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge, Charlottesville, died Saturday (24 Jun 2006) She was born 18 Jan 1915 in Martinsville, VA, the d/o Hugh Nelson Dyer and Katherine Garrett Dyer.

She graduated from Mary Baldwin College, Staunton, VA, in 1936, having received a bachelor of arts degree with a major in chemistry. In 1989, Mary Baldwin College bestowed upon her the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award in recognition of her contributions to the college and society "...as an expression of those high qualities which ennoble and beautify living, and bind man to man in mutual love and helpfulness." Further, in 1994 she was presented the Emily Smith Medallion by the Alumnae Association of Mary Baldwin College, "...in recognition of outstanding service to others and to the college." Katie was a longtime member and former trustee of First Presbyterian Church of Waynesboro. Along with her involvement with church functions, she was an active volunteer with the American Cancer Society. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Alexander Dudley; a brother, Hugh Nelson Dyer Jr. of Troy, NY; and a nephew, David Frederick Dyer of Martinsville, VA.

Surviving are a brother, Horace Gray Dyer of Martinsville; a daughter, Katherine Dudley Dayem and her husband, Hassan Aly Dayem of Camarillo, CA; a son, E. Alexander Dudley and his wife, Elizabeth Peters Dudley, of Charlottesville; five grandchildren, Adam Hassan Dayem of New York City, Katherine Elizabeth Dayem and Sarah Rebecca Dayem of Boulder, CO, and Alexandra Peters Dudley and Richard Peters Dudley, both of Charlottesville; and two nephews, Hugh Nelson Dyer III of Belle Meade, NJ, and Thomas Gray Dyer of Rural Hall, NC.

The family will receive friends from 5-6 p.m. Thursday (29 June 2006) at McDow Funeral Home, 1701 West Main St., Waynesboro. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday (30 June 2006) at First Presbyterian Church, Waynesboro, by Dr. Glen A. Holman. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Joseph B. Yount III, Thomas G. Dyer, Hugh Nelson Dyer III, E. Alexander Dudley, Hassan A. Dayem and Adam H. Dayem.
