John Joy was the son of John Baptist (Basil) and Sarah Greenwell Joy. He was in the War of 1812. John was in 1st Regiment (Delong's) Ohio Militia also on roll of Capt. John Howell's Company. Served from Sept. 3, 1813. He married Elizabeth Smith June 10, 1798 in Frederick, MD, daughter of George Smith. Their children: Rebecca, George, Thomas, William, Mary Ann, Catherine Elizabeth, John Jr., Sophia, Alfred, Henry and Samuel C. Joy.
