A native of Carter County native he was the son of the late Samuel and Belle Markland Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Myrtle Campbell Smith, in 1986; two brothers, Clyde Smith and Neal Smith; and three sisters, Zola Elliott, Hazel Storey and Elizabeth Deal.
Mr. Smith was a retired carpenter. He was a member and deacon of Watauga Valley Free Will Baptist Church.
SMITH -- Funeral services for Vester "Jack" Smith, age 101, formerly of 1165 Highway 91, Elizabethton, who died Thursday, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at Watauga Valley Free Will Baptist Church, with the Revs. D.C. Byrd and Bobby Burrow officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Watauga Valley Free Will Baptist Church Choir. Graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Happy Valley Memorial Park.
