Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach of Dayton, Ohio grew up in St. Christopher Parish where she played softball and soccer at Vandalia-Butler's ball field through her senior year in 2006 excelling in both sports. She attended Vandalia-Butler High School where she received honorable mention in the Greater Western Ohio Conference for softball in her senior year. She also helped prove the high school's softball team was a formidable force, as the team later went on to win the district championship for the first time in the school's history. Maria was committed to the Marine Corps and worked hard in the delayed entry program during her senior year and enlisted on June 6 2006. Maria was pregnant when she vanished from her home near the Camp Lejeune Marine Corps base. She and her unborn child's remains were discovered in Jan 2008. She was 20.
