Special Agent Lee Charles Hitchcock

Special Agent Lee Hitchcock was killed as a result of a mortar attack on the city of Pleiku, Republic of Vietnam.
Agent Hitchcock had been assigned to Vietnam. His job was to conduct criminal investigations as a result of the large presence of United States Air Force personnel who were stationed there during the Vietnam War.
Special Agent Hitchcock was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star with "V" device. He had served with the Office of Special Investigations for two years and was survived by his wife and parents.

I never met Lee Hitchcock but I got to know him well after I was ordered to replace him as OSI Detachment commander at Pleiku Air Force Base in September 1967. Lee was killed by a rocket propelled grenade attack perpetrated by the Viet Cong against the detachment headquarters located outside the airbase. My initial responsibilities were to restore the operations of the deteachment, tend to the morale of the staff, who were shaken by the attack and to investigate the details of the incident.
Over the following weeks and months, I learned that Lee was a dedicated soldier, a respected commander and a thoughtful superior. I regret his death and have thought of him often over the last forty six years. I am grateful to be able to contribute to his memory after so many years.

I am priviliged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.
I pray for the solace of all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.

Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
