Malcolm Wilson was commissioned Captain of volunteers with Co. F, 2nd Maryland Volunteer Infantry Regiment in June 1861. He came from a northern Baltimore County family that saw five sons enlist in support of the Union; three would die in battle and one shortly after the war from lingering effects war service.

Capt. Malcolm Wilson was killed leading an assault at the Burnside Bridge during the battle of Antietam.

Married 1) Lydia Habbersett in Baltimore City, MD on 24 Feb 1843, 2) Mary E. (or C.) Wooden in December 1858.
