James H. Bennett was born Sept. 2, 1860 and departed this life Sunday morning at 6 am April 23, 1944 at the age of 83 years, 7 months and 21 days.
He was the son of William and Arminta Bennett who were among the old time settlers of this county.
He was married to Nannie Triplett Aug. 31, 1885. To this union 7 children were born. The two older ones, Earl and Will preceded him in death, also his wife. She passed away Jan. 21, 1938. The other five children who survive are Mrs Ethel Day and Mrs Gertie Kahler of Buffalo, Lee Bennett of Long Lane, Lester Bennett of California and Mrs Ester Dugan of Marshfield, MO; 15 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs Armanda Bauelin of Sapulpa, Okla., and Mrs Alice Stone of Springfield, MO.
During his life Mr. Bennett, with his father and brother Ben and brother-in-law, A.F. Stone, moved to Nicholas Junction, Greene County, and started in the nursery business, also buying and shipping apples, then sold out there and moved to Seymour and still continued in the nursery business until more than forty years ago he bought a farm and moved back to Long Lane where he still remained with his son Lee until his death.
Funeral services were conducted at the Jones Funeral Home by Rev. Lester Slack at 2 pm Tuesday, April 25. Burial followed in the Pisgah Cemetery at Long Lane under direction of L.B. Jones.
