Born Ocie M. Austin, Jr., he attended Berkeley High School in California and played collegiate football at Utah State University. Selected by Baltimore in the 10th round of the 1968 NFL Draft, he played in 49 total NFL games. During his rookie year (1968), he experienced the Colts' drive to Super Bowl III (World Championship Game) played against the New York Jets in January 1969. After retiring from football, he worked as a bus operator in his native California.
