Professional Football Coach. He became famous as the "mastermind" of both the "No Name Defense" and the "Killer B's" defense of the Miami Dolphins during the 1970s and 1980s. After serving in the Marines during World War II, he got into coaching in college football, serving as an assistant at Miami (Ohio), Ohio State, Kentucky, and Tulane. In 1964 Arnsparger got his first pro football coaching job with the Baltimore Colts. When Colts coach Don Shula became the head coach of the Miami Dolphins in 1970, Arnsparger joined him and served as defensive coordinator. After the Dolphins won two Super Bowls in a row with his "No Name Defense", Arnsparger was named head coach of the New York Giants in 1974, a job he would hold for two years before being fired. Arnsparger came back to be an assistant with the Dolphins and was the architect of the "Killer B's" defense of the early 1980s. He would later go back to the collegiate ranks, first becoming the head coach at LSU and then athletic director at Florida. Arnsparger came back to the pro ranks in 1992 with the San Diego Chargers as defensive coordinator. After helping the Chargers to Super Bowl XXIX, he retired from coaching.
