Professional Football Player. For eight seasons (1952 to 1959), he played at the defensive back position in the National Football League with the Washington Redskins and Pittsburgh Steelers. Born Richard Herbert Alban, he attended LaPorte High School in Indiana, where he made his initial mark on the gridiron and continued his athletics at Northwestern University. Selected by the Redskins during the 9th round of the 1952 NFL Draft, he totaled 96 career regular season games. He distinguished himself, when he achieved Pro-Bowl honors in 1954 and produced a career-high 9 interceptions that year. During the course of his career, Alban was highly-durable as he never missed a game. After retiring, he worked as a sales manager in the clothing industry. Alban's body was donated to science for the purpose of study on Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy which afflicts former football players.
