Professional Football Player. Selected in the fifth round of the 1950 National Football League draft, he played two seasons with the NFL Pittsburgh Steelers. He appeared in 24 games for the Steelers, followed by a brief career in the Canadian Football League (CFL) with the Montreal Alouettes. He served in the U.S. Navy following graduation from high school, participating in the Normandy invasion of France. Following the war he attended Duke University on a football scholarship, earning All-American honors as a tackle, and serving as team captain and MVP his senior year. In 1990 he was inducted into the Duke University Hall of Fame.
