Elizabeth Garner Barton was born in Malone, NY, the daughter of Xavier-Oliver Gamelin/Garner and Ameila Thibeault Garner. She married George S Barton, also from Malone, NY, after his wife died of diabetes. They were married at Notre Dame Church on June 15, 1921.

Her obituary mentions two brothers, Eli Garner of Norwood, NY and Alexander Garner of Rome, NY. According to family records, the family changed their name from Gamelin to Garner in the 1870s when they crossed the Canadian border to live in the United States. Elizabeth died on Holy Thursday in 1949.
