Police officer. He had been an officer with the East Hartford Police Department for almost two years when he unknowingly interrupted a violent robbery and home invasion in progress and was shot in the head. He was not supposed to be the responding officer but radioed dispatch that he would respond since he was nearby. A resident of Tolland, Brian grew up in South Windsor and served with the U.S. Marines during the Gulf War. His cousin, Michael Aselton, a police officer in Barnstable, Mass., was killed in the line of duty in 1983. The public safety complex in the town of East Hartford was named in Brian's honor in 2005. A section of Interstate 84 that runs through the town is also named in his memory, as are numerous annual events.
