IRA - William H. Colton, 87, died Oct. 17, 2008, at Genesis Mountain View Center in Rutland.
He was born in Hartford, Conn., July 22, 1921, the son of Walter G. and Bertha (Wilcox) Colton.
William was a 1943 graduate of the University of New Hampshire.
Bill was a dairy and tobacco farmer for 30 years in Granby, Conn., before moving to Vermont where he was an innkeeper at Green Mont Motel in Rutland for 23 years, retiring in 1997.
He enjoyed coin collecting and Lionel Trains.
Mr. Colton was a member of F&AM Hiram Lodge for over 60 years and Odd Fellows Hall, both in Granby, Conn.
He was a town representative in Granby, Conn.
Surviving are his wife, Mary (Gilligan) Colton; son, William J. "Bill" Colton and his companion, Nancy Barker, of Rutland; two grandsons, Michael Colton and his wife, Mary, of Ira and Christopher Colton of North Carolina; a sister, Margaret Mojesky of Wethersfield, Conn.
He was predeceased by his former wife, Diane B. Colton, in 1976 and by a sister, Priscilla Muszynsky.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
