BLAIR, Arthur Frank

Arthur Frank Blair, 78, beloved husband for 54 years of Thelma (Cousens) Blair, who was by his side, holding his hand, as he passed from this life after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, (September 17, 2009). Born in Richford, VT, son of the late Lloyd and Lydia (Domina) Blair, he graduated from Richford High School in 1949 and served in the United States Air Force as a military policeman during the Korean War from 1950-1954. Arthur and Thelma were married on September 24, 1955 and lived in East Granby before moving to Granby 50 years ago. He was a program planner at Hamilton Standard , became a manufacturing manager at Dunham Bush, and retired as the office manager at Jeffco, Inc. Arthur was a Boy Scout Leader and involved in the Granby Little League program with his children. A dedicated member of the South Congregational Church for 50 years, he was as a Senior Deacon, a Sunday school teacher, and served on many committees, including the Building and Grounds, Finance, Pastoral Search Committee, Mission Board, Wednesday Night Bible Study, and the Men's Ministry. Active in the community, he was a volunteer for the Granby TAP Program, a member of the Granby Senior Center, and the Men's Breakfast Group. He was also a member and quartermaster of the Granby VFW Post #5847. Besides his loving wife, he leaves four beloved children, Gregory Blair and his wife Patricia of Agawam, MA, Deborah Cunningham of West Hartford, Andrew Blair of Culver City, CA, and Timothy Blair and his wife Carla of South Windsor; five grandchildren, Jacob Blair, Adam Blair and his wife Kathryn, Amanda and her husband William Cullen, Melissa Cunningham, and Kate Cunningham; two great grandchildren, Ashleigh and Trevor Blair; and many other close relatives and friends, with whom he shared many decades of friendship, especially the Hart, Severance, and the Stickles families. He was predeceased by two brothers, Frederick and Robert Blair.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, September, 22, 11 a.m., at the South Congregational Church, 242 Salmon Brook St., Granby, with the Rev. Dr. Dennis Moon officiating. A reception will follow in the church parish hall. A graveside service with Military Honors will follow at 2 p.m. at the Granby Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Arthur may be made to the Salvation Army Marshall House, 225 South Marshall St., Hartford, CT 06105, or to the South Congregational Church Memorial Fund, 242 Salmon Brook St., Granby, CT 06035.
