Malford served as a Private First Class, Headquarters Battery, 13th Field Artillery Battalion, 24th Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Aroostook County, Maine and was a member of the Maine National Guard prior to the war.

His National Guard unit was called into full time active Army service on February 24, 1941, prior to the war, from Caribou, Maine. He was noted, at that time, as being employed as a mechanic and also as Single, without dependents.

Malford was "Killed In Action" near Davao City, Mindanao, Philippines during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
