He will be sadly missed and loving remembered by his children Norm Barb Chapin, Linda Teunis, Laura Mark Bentley, 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, his sister, Gwen Schulz of Rockford, MI and his brother Lt. Colonel Howard A. Chapin, USMC (Retired) of Whitefish MT, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Norman enlisted in the US army during World War II and served in the infantry until his retirement. He served in European Theater of Operations during, WWII, later in Panama, then the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired at the rank of Major in 1965. He then worked for the Hudsonville Post Office as a mail carrier for 17 years. He was an avid sportsman and nature lover and a cancer survivor.
The family would like to express a special thanks to the wonderful staff at Sheldon Meadows and also to the thoughtful, caring personnel of Faith Hospice.
The family will receive relatives and friends Wednesday 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cook Funeral Home, Grandville west building 4235 Prairie St. Graveside Military Honors will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Grandville Cemetery.
