BUTCHER -Lt. Col. Marvin L. Butcher. Services will be held at 9:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 25, 2003 at Forest Lawn - Covina Hills for Lt. Col. Marvin L. Butcher, who died Thursday, February 20, 2003 at the age of 79. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Covina, CA on Tuesday, February 25, 2003. He is survived by his loving wife, Tseng; his beautiful daughter, Mary and his son-in-law, Gabri el, as well as his daughters, Glenna, Sue and Christine and his son, Bruce, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Michael. Lt. Col. Marvin L. Butcher was a wonderful husband, father, brother and friend. He served his country with great joy and pride for over 25 years becoming a highly decorated officer with numerous medals and meritorious awards in the United States Army. He fought in World War II, the Korean War and 5 Tours in Viet Nam. He will always be remembered with love, happiness, warmth and joy. Those who truly knew him will always remember his warmth and generosity. He will forever remain in our thoughts and in our hearts. Lt. Col. Marvin Butcher Onawa Democrat – March 13, 2003 Lt. Col. Marvin L. Butcher, 79, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2003 in Covina, CA. He was born November 5, 1923 to Alfred and Helen Butcher in Iowa, the second of eight children. Raised and schooled in Onawa until he entered the United States Army during World War II where he served with the infantry in the South Pacific. He remained in the Army serving with pride for over 25 years. He fought in the Korean War and served five tours in Viet Nam as a member of the 7th Calvary(sic) Tank Division, becoming a highly decorated officer with numerous medals and meritorious awards. He was, preceded in death by his son, Michael, parents, brothers Walter John (Demps) and Oval (Ponch) Butcher. Surviving are his wife, Tseng, daughters Mary (Gabriel), Covina, CA, Glenna, Sue and Christine and son Bruce (Carol) Jasper, MO; brothers Earl (Lola) Casa Grande, AZ, and Darrell (Dutch) (Ellen) Roy, UT; sisters Verla (Tootie) (Lyle) Collison, Onawa, Mary Lou (Harold) Knapp Chilaquin, OR and Phyllis (Jerry) Moore of Moorhead, IA.
