On 26 December 1965, Major John Oliver Arnn was serving with Delta Company, Detachment B-42 (Chau Doc), 5th Special Forces Group, in Chau Doc Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, MAJ Arnn was killed in action when he sustained wounds from an explosive device detonated under his Jeep while traveling between Chau Doc and Ba Chuc, in Chau Doc Province. His body was recovered.

Major Arnn had 16 years of Army service.

He was survived by his wife, two children, and his father. His mother, Nettie Lucille Womack Arnn preceded him in death in 1935.

His Father, Homer J. Arnn, married Nettie Lucille Womack in 1922. They divorced in 1925. She retained the name Arnn until her death in 1935.
