US Congressman. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, he moved to what is now Attica, New York in 1806. From that year until 1816 he served as an officer in the New York State Militia, and during the War of 1812 he was active on the Niagra frontier as Major and commandant of the New York Volunteers. He was twice appointed Sheriff of Genesee County between 1815 and 1821. An Adams-Clay Republican, he contested Isaac Wilson's 1823 election to represent New York's 29th District in the United States House of Representatives, and took Wilson's seat in January 1824; he was subsequently reelected and served until 1827. His many business ventures included agriculture and working as a construction contractor on the Erie Canal. He died in Alexander, New York.
