Kent cricketer and hero of the First World War.
Lionel Troughton attended Dulwich College, where he played for the school team in 1897. He first appeared for Kent Second XI in 1900, and for the First XI in 1907. In his two most successful seasons with the bat, 1914 and 1921, he scored over 700 runs; his career total in First-class cricket was over 4,000 runs. He was a right-arm medium bowler. He was later a popular captain of the roaming amateur cricket team I Zingari ['The Gypsies'].
He was awarded the Military Cross for gallantry.
