Cricketer. Born Charles Inglis Thornton in Herefordshire, England, he was a first-class cricket player who played in more than 200 professional matches and on 22 different teams, in the later 19th Century. He was considered one of the biggest hitters in the sport and holds the World record for the longest shot of 168 yards at the Hove Cricket Grounds, in 1876. He was also the founder of the Orleans Cricket Club and the Scarborough Festival. He died at age 79 in London, England.
